PYTHAGORAS project online workshop on the “Application of numerical tools in industries and labour market”

Join us on 20 December 2023 at 10.30 am for the PYTHAGORAS project online workshop on the “Application of numerical tools in industries and labour market”.

This first industry workshop of the project explores how advanced simulations and other technologies are reshaping our world. From increasing the efficiency of renewable energy, to circular agriculture, to molecular detection, to industry 4.0.

The workshop brings together experts from Italy, Cyprus and the MENA region.

University of Cyprus is a partner of the Pythagoras Erasmus+ project.

The University of Cyprus was established by law in 1989 as a body governed by public law and it admitted its first students in 1992. It offers a range of undergraduate, postgraduate and vocational programmes. It has developed a strong research activity (basic and applied) across the whole range of social impact-oriented disciplines being granted many prestigious EU funded programs such as ERC, Marrie Currie, and Teaming. UCY is staffed (September 2022 data) with 343 academic staff members, 57 Special Teaching Staff members, 734 postdoctoral researchers, research assistants, academic researchers and Special Research Scientists, and 476 administrative staff members. It is is financially supported by state funding (59%) and by its own revenues (41%).

The University is on a continuous upward trajectory of success, with the world reputation rankings placing it among the top universities internationally. More specifically: TIMES 2023 (among the top 401-500), QS 2023 (473), Shanghai ranking – ARWU 2022 (501-600), and US Best Global University Rankings (2022) is a partner of the European university YUFE (Young Universities for the Future of Europe), the European alliance of Young Universities for the Future of Europe. The organisational entities are housed on the University Campus, in the premises of the former Pedagogical Academy and the Shacolas Educational Centre for Clinical Medicine (former Faculty of Nursing), in a part of a building complex in Latsia, in buildings in the walled city of Nicosia, as well as in a significant number of buildings scattered in the wider area of Nicosia, Cyprus.

Sapienza Università di Roma is a partner of the Pythagoras Erasmus+ project.

Founded in 1303, Sapienza is the oldest university in Rome and the largest university in Europe. Sapienza currently offers 300 degree programmes (Bachelor’s and Master’s) – among which over 60 are taught in English – 200 Advanced Professional Courses, over 90 PhDs and 80 specialisation schools. The School of Advanced Studies provides a programme of excellence and free tuition for the best students. Students with an Italian high school score of 100 are exempted from enrolment fees and the bonus is extended if they keep up their good grades. Families who have more than one child enrolled at the university also enjoy a special brothers-sisters bonus. The enrollment is free for students whose ISEE does not exceed 24,000 euros and there will be reductions for students whose ISEE does not exceed 40,000 euros.

University services include 48 libraries (four with 24-hour reading rooms), 18 museums, the Ciao and Hello Orientation Offices, a Sort – Orientation and Tutoring Office in each faculty, a Disabled Students Office, the Job Soul Placement Office, and a Public Relations Office. Through the SapienzaSport Centre, our University promotes numerous cultural, social and sports activities to experience the campus, with over 100 thousand square metres of facilities to practice all kinds of sports, the orchestras and choirs of Musica Sapienza, the Theatron project, the web radio RadioSapienza. Over 30.000 students come from other Italian cities, nearly 10,000 are international students and over 2,200 students a year take part in international mobility programmes. Thanks to a wide network of agreements with universities around the world, Sapienza also provides its students many international opportunities, including double degrees, scholarships abroad, internships in European and non-European countries, and international PhDs. The world most important university rankings place Sapienza at the national top for quality of research, education and international dimension; moreover, Sapienza excels and leads as a benchmark in many subject areas.

The Academy of Scientific Research and Technology is a partner of the Pythagoras Erasmus+ project.

The Academy of Scientific Research & Technology (ASRT) was established in September 1971 by the Presidential Decree No 2405 as the national authority responsible for science & technology in Egypt. In 1998, ASRT was reorganized by the Presidential Decree No 377 that further defined and strengthened its mission, function and activities.

ASRT is the Egyptian house of expertise. It brings together outstanding Egyptian scientists and experts from universities, research institutions, private sector, NGOs, policymakers and prominent Egyptian scientists in Diaspora to deliberate country problems, propose and carry out scientific studies and future strategic basic plans to tackle these problems.

ASRT adopts a comprehensive plan for developing Egyptian S&T to support relevant national ministries and research institutions in creating an integrated system of scientific research together for increasing the number of trained scientists in Egypt, and giving science a leading role in the country’s development and knowledge based economy. ASRT also promotes and encourages female and youth participation in S&T and scientific leadership.

The University of Manouba (UMA) is a partner of the Pythagoras Erasmus+ project.

UMA is a multidisciplinary Tunisian public university. Created in 2000, the year the Manouba Governorate was founded, it brings together, twenty years later, a united group of 15 academic and research institutions, for some, before the first texts establishing the Tunisian national university in March 1960.

In 2022, the UMA has 15375 students, 1256 teachers and 761 administrative, technical and workers staff (ATOS). It offers 125 diplomas in the various levels of training; 01 preparatory cycle for language studies, 30 Licences, 75 Masters of Research and Professionals, 03 National Diplomas of Engineers, 01 National Diploma of Veterinary Medicine and 16 Doctorates backed by a dynamic research ecosystem specialized in various scientific fields with 3 Doctoral Schools federating 34 research structures (Laboratories and Units) and one National Research Institute.

Developed gradually around the Manouba Faculty of Letters, Arts and Humanities, the UMA now has several assets that give it a privileged position in the Tunisian academic landscape and contribute to its international reach.

The UMA community operates in prestigious and mature institutions, places of thought and invention that hold rich academic traditions as well as in young institutions, dynamic and proactive working in emerging fields fueled by technological discoveries. This generational balance that characterizes it is a major asset and a guarantee of the sustainability of the UMA and its societal impact.

The curricula/diplomas delivered within its institutions are divided into four poles affecting the majority of the fields of knowledge, namely :

  • 1/ Humanities and Information Sciences;
  • 2/ Informatics, Art and Design;
  • 3/ Economics and Management, and
  • 4/ Life and Environmental Sciences.

This pluridisciplinarity, source of wealth is the second asset of the UMA.

The pluridisciplinarity and originality of the training offer extend to include scientific research and constitute strength of the UMA. In fact, on the scientific level, UMA researchers have publications that are often awarded prestigious prizes in the field of human and social sciences. UMA’s international ranking also confirms that islands of excellence stand out in the field of sports sciences where UMA is ranked among the top 300 universities in the world (Shanghai 2018 Ranking, Global Sport Sciences Schools) and that of Computer Sciences where it is ranked first nationally and on the Maghreb and in the world Top 501-600 (Ranking THE 2019, Computer Sciences). The international reputation of UMA researchers and the influence of their work is a major asset of UMA’s scientific research and a key driver of its influence.

Aware of the importance of the internationalization of training and research for its influence, the UMA has also succeeded in establishing close and balanced relations with a range of institutions, centres, organisations and universities with 98 cooperation agreements in 28 partner countries. This rich and stable network of international partners is an asset that has enabled the UMA to develop training in co-education and co-supervision and to support the mobility of its community. This effort has also increased the number of capacity-building projects and the number of bilateral and multilateral research projects obtained in cooperation with several countries and on different funding lines.
